Considering Lilies - A Charlotte Mason Community

Meeting Location:  Cary, NC
Community Description: We are a group of families supporting and encouraging each other as we endeavor to follow Miss Mason's philosophy as closely as we can in our homeschools. We meet almost weekly for discussion group, field trips, nature study and Mother Culture. Building and maintaining long term relationships is our goal, therefore a high level of commitment to the group and to the philosophy are required. We welcome those who are newer to the philosophy, provided that the commitment is there and that we have the space.

Magnum Opus

Meeting Location:  Living Faith Baptist Church, Charlotte, NC 28215
Community Description: Magnum Opus: a large and important work of art, music, or literature, especially one regarded as the most important work of an artist or writer.
As Charlotte said, our children are our magnum opus, our greatest, most important thing. What? She didn't say that? Wait, I'm talking about the other Charlotte, the one who built the web for the radiant Wilbur. Magnum Opus is a community of Charlotte Mason learners and adherents in the Charlotte, NC area who are studying the six volume series, going on nature walks together, learning drybrush painting, and growing in our understanding of Charlotte Mason's principles for right living.

Honey of the Hive Cottage School and Natural History Club

Meeting Location: Local Nature Preserves, Gardens, and Parks, Durham, NC 27703
Community Description: Honey of the Hive is a group of families offering the rich, nurturing education of the Charlotte Mason philosophy to our children and ourselves as we learn and grow together. We support one another as we each build strong homes centered on Jesus Christ — where the atmosphere, discipline, and life of a Charlotte Mason education thrive. We strive to nurture Christ-centered relationships that allow for accountability as we grow together in grace toward a fuller understanding and implementation of Mason's principles in our homeschools. There is room in the Hive for families already committed to using Mason’s methods and for families committed to learning more.

This community offers regular opportunities for Mother Culture, CM education mentorship and training, monthly discussion groups for narrating Mason’s writings, field trips, nature/geography excursions, community learning and much more. We want our hive colonies to experience the blessing of intergenerational members with diverse ethnic, social, and economic backgrounds. We recognize what binds us together is a shared heart for God; above all else, and for His glory, we want our group to be a reflection of His Kingdom.

Honey of the Hive is a basecamp where CM educators can get virtually and physically connected to others in our region. Our main hive in Durham offers four core Cell Groups with varying degrees of commitment and involvement: Book Club, Friends, Nature Club, and Cottage School. You can read more about the Cell Groups on our website.

We are about building community and life-long relationships, and we want our families to be genuinely seeking this. It will take time to grow and flourish our local colonies, but the result is worth it: the sticky-sweet, golden treat of COMMUNITY, which is the true Honey of the Hive.

Children's Schole

Meeting Location:  River Park North, Greenville, NC
Community Description: Children’s Schole is here to provide an opportunity to families to include Truth, Goodness, and Beauty in the education of their children. These subjects include but are not limited to: art study (artist, composer, and architecture), folk songs, handicrafts, nature study, and Shakespeare. Lessons are planned around Charlotte Mason’s philosophy. We choose living books, encourage narrations, and surround the children with quality art, music and nature. Personally, we use Ms. Mason’s methods in our own home school and know how important consistency is in our children’s education. We strongly encourage parents to continually educate themselves about Charlotte Mason’s method.

A Broad Feast for Charlotte Mason Mothers

Meeting Location: Mebane, NC
Community Description: As a new reading group in the Mebane area, we are beginning with the quintessential CM-introduction, For the Children's Sake, and will continue on with reading through Charlotte Mason's volumes. As I have grown in my understanding of Miss Mason's philosophy, I have benefited greatly not only in my home school, but in my own life as a mother and Christ-follower! As such, I desire to share the rich principles of Charlotte Mason with other homeschooling moms in the community by studying her philosophies and methodologies and growing in our understanding of her principles in order to implement her wisdom in our homes, our home school, and our daily lives. Home-educating mothers both well-acquainted and new to Charlotte Mason are welcome!
